IndyLan-Learn Indigenous Langs: An Educational Tool for Learning Endangered Languages

IndyLan-Learn Indigenous Langs, developed by Heriot-Watt University, is an educational tool designed to help users learn endangered languages and gain insights into the cultures of the people who speak these languages. The app aims to support the learning of Gaelic, Scots, Cornish, Basque, Galician, and Saami, which are all endangered to varying degrees. It serves as a complementary resource to other language and culture courses, making it ideal for self-study.

With approximately 4,000 vocabulary items in about 100 categories, IndyLan offers various modes for language practice, including Vocabulary, Phrases, Dialogues, Grammar, Aural Comprehension, and Culture. The vocabulary is accompanied by illustrations for easy concept recognition, and audio is available for all vocabulary, phrases, dialogues, and more.

IndyLan also includes a dedicated Culture tab that provides texts, music, and images to enhance users' understanding of the heritage and culture associated with the selected endangered languages. By integrating language and culture, IndyLan aims to contribute to the revitalization and preservation of endangered languages.

Please note that IndyLan is a free app and has been developed with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
